When I was a teenager, my late mum pushed me to leyn a chapter of Megillat Esther at our local women’s reading. Looking back I can’t thank her enough. Once I’d leyned in public that first time, I had the confidence to do it again the next year and every year since. I’m lucky now to have the opportunity to leyn during Shabbat services in my local partnership minyan, which I help to run. Participating in services has made going to shul a much more meaningful experience for me.
